NEWCASTLE, Placer County — Newcastle is among the communities included in Placer County’s third phase of its rural broadband expansion initiative, with a published target to connect more rural homes by the end of 2026.
In a June 13, 2024 announcement, the county said Phase 3 would cover Newcastle, Sheridan, Loomis, South Auburn, North Auburn, Meadow Vista and Folsom Lake Estates. At the time, the county described a countywide Phase 3 target of roughly 11,000 homes and businesses by late 2026.
What does the published target prove?
The release establishes that Newcastle was in the program’s intended coverage, not that every Newcastle property now has a fiber connection or that a specific provider offers service at every address. Broadband construction and service eligibility can vary by road and parcel.
How to verify an address
The county links to its Broadband Equity Program and project maps. Residents should enter their service address in current provider availability tools and ask the county for up-to-date project status rather than rely on a 2024 forecast of completion.
Online work, education and emergency communications may depend on reliable broadband, making this a significant infrastructure issue for Newcastle households.
